Height Safety Systems in Sydney
Ace Abseiling installs, inspects and certifies roof height safety systems for strata, commercial and industrial buildings across Sydney. Because our team also paints, repairs and cleans façades by rope access, the same people who set up your roof access can use it for the maintenance work in the same visit.
Height safety systems we install
- Anchor points. Single-point anchors for fall arrest and rope access, positioned so every drop on the façade can be reached. See anchor point installation and certification.
- Static lines. Horizontal lifelines that let a worker stay connected while moving along a roof edge, useful on long roofs and where plant is serviced often.
- Guardrails. Edge protection that protects everyone on the roof without clipping on, often the better option where a roof is accessed regularly.
- Roof access hatches. A safe way onto the roof, with the ladder below and the opening protected while someone is up there.
Inspection and certification
Anchors and static lines need periodic inspection by a competent person under AS/NZS 1891.4, typically at intervals of no more than 12 months. The standard was revised in 2025 (AS/NZS 1891.4:2025). Each point is checked, load tested where required, tagged and recorded. Anything that fails is tagged out of service until it is repaired or replaced.
You receive a report you can file: anchor locations on a roof plan, the result for each point, photos of any defects and the next due date. Strata committees, contractors and insurers usually ask for exactly this.

How a height safety job runs
- Roof survey. We look at how people get onto the roof, where they need to work and which façade drops the building needs.
- Written quote. The layout of anchors, static lines, guardrails or hatches, and what each one is for.
- Installation. Carried out by our own rope access team, with SWMS and the area below managed while we work.
- Testing and tagging. New and existing points are tested and tagged.
- Report. Roof plan, results and photos, ready for your records.

Standards that apply
- AS/NZS 1891.4: selection, use and maintenance of fall-arrest systems, including periodic inspection.
- AS/NZS 5532: single-point anchor devices.
- AS 1657: fixed platforms, walkways, stairways and ladders, including roof access.
Frequently asked questions
How often do anchor points need to be inspected?
Under AS/NZS 1891.4, typically at intervals of no more than 12 months, and before use if there is any doubt about their condition.
Anchors, static line or guardrails: which does my roof need?
It depends on how often the roof is used and by whom. Anchors suit occasional rope access and façade work; static lines suit regular movement along an edge; guardrails suit roofs with plant or frequent access. Many roofs use a mix. We recommend a layout after the roof survey.
What happens if an anchor fails its test?
It is tagged out of service and recorded in the report, and we quote to repair or replace it so the roof can be used again.
Can you do the painting or window cleaning in the same visit?
Yes. Once the anchors are certified, our team can carry out high-rise window cleaning, rope access painting or façade repairs from the same setup.
Do you work outside Sydney?
Yes. We work across Greater Sydney, Wollongong and the Central Coast.
