What we do on rope access
- Rope access painting: façades, high-rise exteriors, balconies, window frames and difficult-access walls.
- Remedial repairs: concrete repairs, crack repairs, spalling and concrete cancer.
- Caulking and sealing: joint and window sealant replacement to stop water getting in.
- Leak investigation and water testing: finding where water enters before anything is repaired.
- High-rise window cleaning: one-off cleans and scheduled programs for strata and commercial glass.
- Pressure cleaning: façade, balcony and hard-surface washing.
- Anchor points: installation, inspection, proof load testing, certification and 12-month recertification.
- Height safety systems: anchor points, static lines, guardrails and roof access hatches.
- Bird proofing: bird spikes and ledge cleaning on hard-to-reach parts of the building.
One access setup can cover several of these. On many buildings we wash, repair, seal and paint in the same mobilisation, which keeps the job shorter and simpler for the building.
What is rope access, and when is it the right choice?
Rope access, also called industrial abseiling, is a form of high-rise access and a way of working at height where trained technicians hang from two independent ropes, a working line and a backup line, rigged to certified anchors at roof level. In Australia it is carried out to AS/NZS ISO 22846 (Parts 1 and 2), which replaced AS/NZS 4488, and usually under the IRATA system with a Level 3 supervisor managing rigging and rescue. As a rope access company in Sydney, we use it for painting, remedial repairs, sealing, cleaning and height safety work.
Rope access suits work where the building is tall, the ground below is busy, or the area is awkward to reach. Technicians work directly on the façade from ropes rigged at roof level, so there is no structure to install at ground level, little impact on footpaths and car parks, and residents or tenants can keep using the building.
It is not right for every job. If a project is better done another way, we will tell you at the inspection.
Recent project: TAFE Ultimo, Sydney
Over six months our team delivered the full façade package on a multi-storey building at TAFE Ultimo: new anchor points, pressure washing, façade repairs and painting, all on rope access. Quiet painting work ran during semester, and the noisy concrete repairs were scheduled for the TAFE holidays.
